Pig Ears Dog Treats Potential Salmonella Contamination – Recall in 33 States in USA

45 individuals in 13 states have been diagnosed with Salmonella related illness. 12 people have been hospitalized.

FDA is investigating a suspected link between pig ear treats and human cases of salmonellosis. Pig ear treat samples collected from bulk bins in retail locations by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development tested positive for several strains of Salmonella.

Pet Supplies Plus is recalling bulk pig ears supplied to over 400 retail stores in 33 states. Bulk pig ears were distributed to Pet Supplies Plus stores in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
